Crime Stoppers

For 25 years, Crime Stoppers has served as a model public-private partnership and an invaluable tool for the NYPD's efforts to apprehend the city's most dangerous criminals.

Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $2,000 for anonymous information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a violent felon.

The Police Foundation pays for the rewards and outreach efforts to raise public awareness of the Crime Stoppers' 800-577-TIPS hotline.

The following numbers offer clear evidence of the programs success:

Calls to Crime Stoppers have helped solve more than 5,000 crimes including over 1,300 murders and attempted murders.

Over $1.4 million in rewards has been approved to callers to the hotline.

Anonymous tips can now be text messaged to Crime  Stoppers by texting  the word "CRIMES," (274637), then entering "TIP577".

Online tips can be placed on the new web site - NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.

In recognition of 25 years of Crime Stoppers in New York City, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly thanks New Yorkers for their part in making neighborhoods safer. "Crime Stoppers has helped enormously in the apprehension of violent criminals in our city. The Police Department is grateful to the public, the media, and the New York City Police Foundation for working together to make this program a success."
